well, I'm sure yall remember when the Emperor (not Bu$h, I'm referring to the one from Star Wars), well, as he said "UNLIMITED POWER" as lightning bolts shot from his hands?
Forive me if this has already been discussed (had massive computer problems the last few days),
but I wanted to make sure everyone knows about something that even for my jaded expectations,
is a little hard to believe in a country that once had something called, uhhh, what was it....
Constitution, Law,
those "pieces of paper" our current emperor finds to be like a teacher on the playground when he's trying to do the kinda stuff some folks like to do?
--So, this is part of an activist message (u can check with the ACLU website) that I read just moments ago as I caught up on recent days events that continue to sell us into a time machine bound for Europe in the evolving 1930's:
"A disturbing deal between Dick Cheney and Senator Arlen Specter is on its way to a committee vote tomorrow morning in the Senate (Friday 28th).
This horrible bill would set government spies loose in new ways that further undermine our Constitutional freedoms.
We urgently need you to read a few facts below then call Congress right away.
This bill -- that some are calling Big Brother on Steroids -- would make the presidents illegal surveillance program legal.
And it would allow this president and future presidents to wiretap any American, secretly, indefinitely, and without any mandatory judicial check.
---The Executive Branch could also secretly search Americans homes and businesses WITHOUT warrants
for the duration
of the war on terror [Which we know is endless].----
The Cheney-Specter "Compromise"::
The Cheney-Specter NSA bill, S. 2453,
rewards the president's repeated and ongoing violations of federal law and our Fourth Amendment rights by effectively legalizing the illegal, warrantless NSA wiretapping program.
It vastly expands the government's ability to conduct warrantless spying and physical searches of Americans' homes and businesses without a warrant. The bill also allows the administration's data-mining of Americans' private information to continue without any independent judicial check and denies Americans the right to bring a case challenging their surveillance before a fair and independent court.
The White House has repeatedly stonewalled congressional attempts to investigate the administration's violations of FISA -- the law that protects citizens against illegal spying.
Plus, it was recently revealed that President Bush personally blocked an investigation by the Justice Department into the NSA's warrantless wiretapping program.
Congress has an obligation to oversee the executive branch and protect our fundamental freedoms. Please call your senator right now and tell him or her that Congress should not legislate without getting the facts about the NSA wiretapping program.
We will update this page with more information as it unfolds.
Here are some talking points for your telephone calls:
* Oppose S. 2453, which would enshrine in federal law the president's claim of inherent power to wiretap Americans at will without any individual, independent check; it's like the Patriot Act on steroids.
* Also oppose S. 2455, which also would make judicial review of each individual wiretap optional destroying our fundamental Fourth Amendment rights.
* Demand that the committee hold a hearing to question phone companies about their actions. The committee should also issue subpoenas to force government officials and phone company executives to truthfully answer questions about President Bush's warrantless surveillance of Americans.
The following senators are on the Senate Judiciary committee. They will be voting on this bill as early as Thursday, July 27. If your senator is on this list, please call them right now!

{hey, does the "DURATION of the war on terror" end before or after the last Jedi Knights go underground for Luke's entire childhood?}
